Joo Chiat Road, Radiance
A heritage mural linking phoenix symbolism and lantern-making with Lord Guan’s virtues of righteousness and loyalty, reflecting craft, culture and values.
Last updated 4 May 2026

Created by Eunice Hannah Lim, along with Shaping Hearts artist Christina Lau Lay Lian, Radiance (鳳凰來義) brings mythology, heritage craft, and inclusive art into Joo Chiat’s cultural landscape. Featuring phoenixes and a traditional lantern, the mural pays tribute to lantern-making, once closely tied to festivals, faith, and community life. Its inscription transforms the familiar phrase 鳳凰來儀 into 鳳凰來義, replacing ceremonial propriety with righteousness in response to the neighbouring Lord Guan temple. Through this gesture, the mural connects craft, virtue, resilience, and creative renewal.
