Joshua Wang Yu Hui

Joshua is 17 years old. His artistic journey is a powerful testament to transformation and self-expression. Diagnosed with severe autism at the age of 2, he has overcome many challenges to become a talented artist. From a young age, Joshua found his voice through art, with his creativity nurtured by a variety of art teachers, each bringing their unique approach. Over the past three years, his work has evolved remarkably, shifting from dark pencil shading to vibrant shades of blue, his favourite colour. Despite difficulties in cognitive skills, language expression, motor function, eye contact, social interaction, sensory integration, learning, and memory, Joshua has worked tirelessly to overcome these challenges and focus on what he can do to express himself. Joshua’s debut art exhibition in The Oasis at Science Park last October marked a significant milestone, featuring not only his paintings but also merchandise like tote bags and t-shirts printed with his artwork. He is eagerly anticipating the upcoming Shaping Hearts exhibition in November, where he will showcase his latest creations. His film, Joshua Tree, which was nominated for Best Documentary at the London Film Festival and the Berlin Filmhaus Festival in 2023, beautifully captures his artistic evolution and boundless potential.
